I learned some facts about the world recently that gave me puase to think.
30% of the world's population is under that age of 18. That's a lot of kids.
52% of the world's population is under the age of 30. That's a lot of young people.
Facts from Nepal:
In Nepal, the median age is 21 yrs. To put that in perspective, the median age in the USA is 37 years, Japan and several European countries--40 years.
In Uganda, the median age is 15 years.
If every continent's median age were to be represented by a single person, the representative from Europe would be 40 years old, North America would be 37 years old, Oceania would be 33, Asia would be 28, Latin America and the Carribean would be 27, and Africa would be 19 years old.
34% of Nepal's population is under the age of 14. So, this is a nation with a lot of children. That's obvious to me when I look around. Lots of children, and very young parents. And lots of children are raising themselves here.
75% of Nepal's population is under the age of 35.
A 2009 Barna study indicates that nearly half of all Americans who accept Jesus Christ as their savior did so before reaching the age of 13 (43%), and that two out of three born again Christians (64%) made that commitment to Christ before their 18th birthday. One out of eight born again people (13%) made their profession of faith while 18 to 21 years old.
If that's true, with all these statistics about young populations in Asia, Africa, and South America, we live in a world of great potential!
Maybe these things don't mean a lot to some people... but to me, they mean that I need to get to pray MORE for the world's children, and I need to make it a priority to get the Word out to children! Here in Nepal, there is a great need for discipleship of children and young adults. It's obvious that this emphasis is very much needed in other places around the world as well.
Let's bring up the chosen generation!
